83-Year-Old Woman Wins Corvette In Raffle

From Staff And Wire Reports

In an ambitious attempt to raise money for a proposed private school in Kootenai County, the Holy Family Catholic School Board held its annual Classic Car Raffle on Saturday night.

Jo Town, 83, of Post Falls, claimed the grand prize - a 1963 cherry-red Corvette Stingray convertible.

“I entered it to help the church build a school, never dreaming that at 83 years of age I’d get a Stingray,” said Town, who bought four tickets. “What would an old woman do with a Corvette? I just wish that I was 50 years younger so I could enjoy it the way it should be enjoyed.”

Antonio Ortiz, Jr., 18, Coeur d’Alene, took home second prize, a 1993 Harley Davidson motorcycle. Flo Chadderdon of Coeur d’Alene won third prize, an ocean cruise.

Other prizes raffled were a big-screen television, a video camera, a fax machine and a portable compact disc players.

The annual Classic Car Raffle is the school board’s main fund-raising project. A lack of funds has delayed the opening of Holy Family Catholic School, which was scheduled to open this fall, until the fall of 1996.
