Team Sets Off World War Ii Bomb
A bomb squad flew to this Russian outpost on the Baltic Sea on Saturday to detonate a 220-pound German bomb from World War II that was found on a construction site.
Experts from the Ministry for Emergency Situations in St. Petersburg set off the bomb in a concrete bunker, the Interfax news agency said. Witnesses said the bomb fell out of a construction worker’s bucket at the site.
It was the second time in a month that a large bomb was found in the Kaliningrad area, a wedge of Russian territory separated from the rest of the country by Lithuania about 450 miles west of Moscow.
