Abraham Olano of Spain won the 25-mile individual time trial through Salamanca, Spain, in the seventh stage of the Tour of Spain, and Laurent Jalabert of France held to the overall lead… . Michael Johnson and Algerian Noureddine Morceli barely missed world records in the Mobil Grand Prix Final in Monte Carlo, Monaco. Morceli’s blistering 1,500-meter victory in 3 minutes, 28.37 seconds was only a second off his world mark. Johnson’s 200 time of 19.93, into a wind, was .21 seconds off the world record held by Italy’s Pietro Mennea, as he beat Namibia’s Frankie Fredericks by nearly 3 meters.
