Heisman hopefuls
Tommie Frazier, RB/Sr. Nebraska: With the dismissal of Lawrence Phillips, the Huskers’ other hopeful, Frazier is their man and he responded with two TD scores (27, 28) and ran for two (15, 3) TDs in Nebraska’s 77-28 rout over Arizona State.
Leeland McElroy, RB/Jr. Texas A&M: In Aggies’ 52-9 win over Tulsa, ‘Lectric Leeland scored four touchdown for 285 total yards, 116 on 23 rushes, 128 on four catches and 41 yards on two kickoff returns. He now has 644 all-purpose yards in two games.
Warrick Dunn, RB, Florida St.: In the ‘Noles 77-17 romp over N.C. State, Dunn got it done by contributing with three touchdowns. He finished with 101 yards on nine carries and has gained 405 yards on just 30 carries this season for a 13.5 average.
Eddie George, RB, Ohio State: In the Buckeyes’ 30-20 win over Washington, the tailback from Phillie showed why he too must be considered a Heisman hopeful. George ran for 212 yards on 36 carries and two touchdowns. It was the second-highest total of his career.
Streaks
Florida State ran its Atlantic Coast Conference winning streak to 27 games with a 77-17 win over North Carolina State.
Texas A&M extended its home winning streak to 28 games, the nation’s longest, with a 52-9 win over Tulsa.
Penn increased its Division 1-AA winning streak to 22 games with a 20-12 victory over Dartmouth.

Simeon Rice had four sacks in the Fighting Illini’s 9-7 win over Arizona, increasing his career total to 40 - a Big Ten record.
Steve Taneyhill of South Carolina threw a school-record five TD passes and 389 yards as the Gamecocks defeated Louisiana Tech 68-21.
Derrick Cullors rushed for 252 yards and three touchdowns to lead Murray State to a 34-0 win over Southeast Missouri.
Cincinnati linebacker Brad Jackson returned an interception 71 yards for a touchdown, recovered a fumble that led to another TD and had two more takeaways as the Bearcats shut out Virginia Tech 16-0.
St. John’s, Minn., 49-14 victory over Bethel marked coach John Gagliardi’s 319th win and tied him for third with Pop Warner on the all-time list for victories by a college coach.
