Mason Hits Jackpot With Knicks

Compiled From Wire Services

Anthony Mason, the NBA’s top reserve last season after rejecting a $9 million offer from the Knicks, signed a multiyear contract to remain with New York.

The deal reportedly is for six years and $25 million. Mason turned down a three-year contract last season and became an unrestricted free agent.

“He rolled the dice and it came up 7,” Knicks general manager Ernie Grunfeld said. “Anthony got rewarded. He got what he wanted - a contract that he earned.”

In Gary, Ind., Milwaukee Bucks forward Glenn Robinson took a swing at a gas station attendant who told him to turn down the volume on his truck tape player, according to police report.

Robinson said the attendant’s attitude and her “aggressive tone of voice” prompted him to raise his hand in a threatening gesture.

“She had an attitude from the beginning,” he said. “She kept on running her mouth. I’m not going to let anybody run over me.”

The Philadelphia 76ers signed 6-foot-7, 225-pound forward Richard Dumas.
