WSU Guard Ellison Arrested

Washington State University junior point guard Donminic Ellison was arrested by Pullman police near Bohler Gym early Friday for driving with a suspended license and possession of about 19 grams of marijuana, both misdemeanors.

A report has been forwarded to the Whitman County prosecutor’s office, and Ellison could be charged at any time, police said Tuesday.

Possession of less than 40 grams of marijuana is a misdemeanor.

According to police, Ellison was pulled over at 12:33 a.m. Friday for driving without using headlights.

A routine check showed Ellison’s license had been suspended - the basketball player apparently had failed to resolve a traffic violation - and a subsequent search of the vehicle turned up the marijuana, police said.

The 5-foot-10, 176-pound Ellison averaged 10.8 points and 5.6 assists while playing a team-high 35 minutes per game last season.

Ellison was suspended twice last season, in November for being charged as a minor in possession of alcohol and in January for what coach Kevin Eastman called academic reasons.

By the numbers

NCAA statistical leaders were announced Tuesday, and WSU junior guard Isaac Fontaine ranked fifth nationally among 3-point shooters at 48.5 percent. He made 66 of 136 attempts.

Senior teammate Mark Hendrickson ranked 27th in field-goal percentage at 57.2, slightly less than Gonzaga junior center Paul Rogers, who shot 57.8 percent and ranked 23rd. Montana State’s Quadre Lollis led the nation at 67.5 percent.

Idaho senior Harry Harrison ranked 21st in rebounding at 10.3 per game.

Letter-of-intent day today

Eastman is expected to fill the Cougars’ one remaining scholarship later this month. Today is national letter-of-intent day.
