Two People Come To Aid Of Officer Under Assault

From Staff And Wire Reports

Two passersby stopped Monday night to help a Spokane police officer fighting with a man on East Upriver Drive.

The officer was walking near an apartment building at 2140 E. Upriver when he spotted Kevin Lee McDaniel.

The policeman, who knew McDaniel was wanted on two outstanding warrants, yelled for him to stop, police spokesman Dick Cottam said.

Instead, McDaniel charged the officer, hit him in the face and ran away, Cottam said.

The officer caught McDaniel after chasing him for two blocks and tried to arrest him. McDaniel resumed the fight, prompting two people who were driving by to come to the officer’s aid.

McDaniel, 27, was charged with assaulting a police officer and resisting arrest. The warrants were for trafficking in stolen property and lesser offenses. , DataTimes
