WSU Golf Coach Burkhart To Resign

Associated Press

Washington State golf coach Christine Burkhart will resign at the end of the current season to teach golf full time in Western Washington, Cougars athletic director Rick Dickson said Thursday.

Burkhart, 46, has coached Washington State’s men’s and women’s golf programs for six years and was named the Ladies Professional Golf Association’s 1995 coach of the year for the western United States and British Columbia.

Dickson said a search for a successor will begin in May, after Burkhart’s departure.

A prepared statement on Burkhart’s resignation did not say where in Western Washington she plans to teach golf.

At Washington State, teaching golf comprises only a small portion of her duties.

“When I teach somebody, it gives me immediate goose bumps,” she said. “I want to do that more often.”
