Nc Puts Shadle To The Test

Shanelle Test pitched a no-hitter through six innings and struck out 18 as the North Central Indians blanked host Shadle Park (1-9) 4-0 in Greater Spokane League softball Monday afternoon.

Test finshed with a one-hitter, giving up a single to Mary Jones in the seventh inning. The win kept the Indians (7-3) tied for third place with University.

In other games, Central Valley squeaked past Gonzaga Prep 9-8, University shut out Lewis and Clark 3-0 and Ferris knocked off Rogers 2-1.

At Gonzaga Prep, Crystal Lee had a double and a triple and drove in three runs as the Bears (7-3) dropped the Bullpups (6-4) into fourth place.

At University, Jamie Fox struck out 12 while only walking one and holding the Tigers (1-9) to three hits to keep the Titans (8-2) in sole position of second place.

Stephani Shelton led U-Hi, going 3 for 4 with an RBI and stolen base.

At Ferris, the Saxons (3-6) scored two runs in the fourth inning on two Pirates (3-7) errors for the win.

At Newport, Kendra Eneroth threw her second consecutive no-hitter and third of the season as the Grizzlies toppled Chewelah 10-0 in a Northeast A League contest.

Prep soccer

Matt Kennedy had a goal and an assist as Shadle Park remained tied for second place in the GSL standings with a 4-0 shootout win over visiting Ferris (2-5).

The Highlanders (5-2) trailed 3-2 with less than 10 minutes left before Kennedy tied the game at the 73-minute mark. Mladen Blagojevic added two goals for Shadle.

In other games, Mead downed Lewis and Clark 3-1, University stopped North Central 6-1 and Gonzaga Prep blanked Rogers 6-0.

At Hart Field, the Panthers (7-0) overcame a 1-0 deficit on Ben Brodsky’s goal 8 minutes into the game and held on to keep a stranglehold on first place. Mead was helped by an own goal at the end of the first half that hit off the foot of a Tiger (4-3) and rolled in.

At University, Ryan Massey had a hat trick as the Titans (4-3) moved into a tie for third place with the Indians (4-3) and Lewis and Clark.

At Gonzaga Prep, Maris Baltins had a goal and three assists to help the Bullpups (5-2) grab a share of second place. G-Prep outshot the Pirates (0-8) 13-2.

In Frontier League play, Thad Anderson had a goal and an assist as Colville scored the first three goals and never looked back in beating Pullman 3-1.

Football

Two former Idaho Vandals have signed free-agent NFL contracts.

Offensive tackle Spencer Folau signed with the Baltimore Ravens and wide receiver Dwight McKinzie signed with the San Diego Chargers.

Track and field

Matt Shaffer of Spokane won the open hammer with a toss of 215 feet, 6 inches at the Mount San Antonio College Relays during the weekend in Walnut, Calif.

Shaffer, a North Central High and Washington State graduate, has provisionally qualified for the U.S. Olympic trials.

Also at the Mount SAC, Tawanda Chiwira led Idaho’s 400 relay team to victory in 40.44, beating track power Arkansas.
