Head Start Director To Leave

Charles Brown, who has been with the Head Start program in North Idaho since 1974, is stepping down as program director.

He’ll be replaced by Doug Fagerness, who is now assistant manager and program manager. Fagerness has also been with the program for 20 years, Brown said Tuesday.

Brown leaves May 15 for “new adventures in Arizona,” he said.

Head Start helps prepare needy pre-schoolers for success in school. The North Idaho program is one of only four in the western United States to receive a perfect score from federal advisers within the last four years.

When Brown started, the program served 120 children in three centers. Now, 211 children participate at seven centers throughout the Panhandle.
