Murder Suspect Won’t Enter Plea

After telling authorities for months he wants to die instead of spending his life in prison, confessed killer Faron Lovelace refused to enter a plea in court Monday.

Lovelace, 39, is a self-proclaimed white supremacist and is charged with first-degree murder, kidnapping and aggravated assault.

On Monday, he had his third court appearance to enter a plea. After he declined to say anything, the judge entered a plea of not guilty on Lovelace’s behalf, then scheduled him to stand trial.

Lovelace was expected to plead guilty to avoid a trial. He has asked authorities to seek the death sentence for him. He previously refused to enter a plea, fearing anti-death penalty groups would try to stop his death wish.

Lovelace was arrested last summer in Bonner County and confessed to killing Jeremy Scott, 24, more than a year ago. Lovelace said he thought Scott was a government informant or would interfere with plans to kill some local elected officials.

Authorities said Lovelace waited for Scott to return to his cabin north of Sandpoint, tied him up for several hours then executed him with one shot to the back of his head.

Lovelace buried Scott’s body in a shallow grave. He led authorities to the corpse a year later after they promised to seek the death penalty in the case.
