Hints From Heloise

King Features Syndicate

Dear Heloise: When my children went off to college, I got each a small tackle box and filled it with things they might need, such as a small hammer, screwdrivers, nails, tape, sewing kits, trial-size toothpaste and small soaps.

I went through my desk drawers and took a few items from anything I thought they might need, like rubber bands, stamps and envelopes. I even put quarters in there for laundry.

They carried the box from dorms to apartments and now homes. I’ve also done this for friends’ children as they went off to college.

Everyone has told me they couldn’t believe how often they have used “the box,” and if they needed something, they always checked it first. - Sara Miller, Clemmons, N.C.
