Top-seeded Thomas Muster was upset by Italy’s Andrea Gaudenzi 6-3, 6-4 in the first round Italian Indoors ATP tournament in Milan, Italy.

Italian fans went wild at Milan’s Palatrussardi Arena as the 22-year-old local player, ranked 35th in the ATP computer and unseeded in the tournament, upset the No. 2 player in the world in 1 hour, 18 minutes.

It was the second consecutive first-round elimination for Muster, who lost to Sandon Stolle in Dubai earlier this month.

Up and coming Jiri Novak of the Czech Republic needed only 46 minutes to produce a 6-0, 6-2 victory over American Aaron Krickstein in the first round of the U.S. Indoor Championship at Philadelphia.
