Dear Heloise: Makeup in a glass bottle, which needs shaking before each use, won’t transfer into the cap and dry out if before shaking you remove the cap and cover the opening with your thumb.

Dear Heloise: When repotting a household plant, rather than using rocks on the bottom, I use those packing peanuts.

Dear Heloise: My dryer has a lint filter basket in the front, which I empty after each wash. However, lint collects under the basket.

I use a bottle brush, dampened, and run it around the opening after the basket is out. You’d be amazed at how much more lint you can collect. I only use this trick once in a while, when I see lint building up. - Hope Emerich, Hershey, Pa.
