Rick Brainard came off the bench in the second half to score 13 of his 15 points as Portland held off Saint Mary’s 97-86 on Friday night in Moraga, Calif.

Portland (1-0 WCC, 10-3) broke the game open at the start of the second half with a 20-6 run and held Saint Mary’s to just two baskets in the first 13:42. Saint Mary’s (6-6, 0-1) then went on a 24-9 run to cut the lead to 74-70.

Lemont Daniels led five Pilots in double figures with 19 points. Jumoke Horton led Saint Mary’s with 18.
