Many Laughed Out Loud Over The Golden Globes
If you’re still reeling from Sunday night’s Gold Globes show - excuse us, but “Party of Five”? “Cybill”? - other stuff occurred that you may not know about.
For example, Jessica Lange told reporters that it would be a “cold day in hell” when her live-in love Sam Shepard escorted her to an awards show. As for Sunday night, she said, “It’s still not cold enough.”
And then there were the interesting couples who showed. “Friends” cast members Jennifer Aniston and Courteney Cox came arm-in-arm, as did “ER” stars George Clooney and Noah Wylie.
The most interesting, though, were Kathy Bates and Emilio Estevez. When asked their status, Estevez quipped, “Oh, yes, we’re sleeping together.” Sniffed Bates, “We’re making a movie together.”
Loose talk
Jay Leno on the Michael Jackson-Lisa Marie Presley breakup (on the “Tonight” show): “So you know what that means: Kids, he’s available.”
Believe us, her father is a real louse - or is that Klaus?
Nastassia Kinski turns 36 today.
They’ll do whatever it takes, and whomever, too
If your morning TV habit includes Harry Smith and Paula Zahn of CBS, then prepare yourself for a change. USA Today reports that the pair is about to get canned in a ratings move. Executive producer Jim Murphy, while calling the story “speculation,” said merely that, “None of these things have been discussed yet. We haven’t ever won in the morning and we’d like to, and we’ll do whatever it takes to get there.”
Eastwood-Ruiz love story is one for the ages
More on that Clint Eastwood-Dina Ruiz report (which involves their having taken out a wedding license but not set a wedding date): He is 65, and she is 30.
There’s a whole lot of shakeups goin’ on
According to Vance Durgin of the Orange County Register, Kathie Lee Gifford is still talking about quitting daytime television. No sweat, he says, “If she leaves, the producers could hire rocker Jerry Lee Lewis to replace her and call the new show ‘Live! With Regis and Jerry Lee.”’
Hey, Jen, the Nicorette gum is cheap down in Tijuana
Jennifer Jason Leigh doesn’t regret her decision to quit smoking. But, as she explained to Jay Leno on “Tonight,” the people around her might not appreciate it. “Usually I’d just be shy and nervous,” she says, “but now I’m shy and nervous and I want to kill somebody.”
There’s nothing wrong that a few nude photos won’t fix
There’s been just three issues of John Kennedy’s much-publicized publishing effort, George magazine, and the advertising pages already have dwindled from 175 to 100. Says one industry source, “The buzz… has evaporated. It’s trying to be like Vanity Fair with a political fuzzy direction and… I can’t really tell what it is.” The magazine’s editor, Eric Etheridge, has already jumped ship.
