The Rockets Red Glare And Other Attractions

Thunderous explosions, erupting into brilliant showers of fire, light and color, isn’t that what the Fourth of July is all about? This year, dozens of fireworks shows will light up the skies of Eastern Washington and North Idaho. Here are some:

Spokane’s American Music Festival

Goodbye Neighbor Days. Hello American Music Festival. This event makes its debut at Riverfront Park Thursday through Sunday. It’s a music festival will be punctuated by fireworks Thursday. The fireworks start at 9:45 p.m. (See Thursday’s IN Life section for a full preview of the festival.)

Coeur d’Alene

The Lake City’s holiday celebration begins with a parade down Sherman Avenue at 11 a.m. and the fireworks will be shot off a barge on Lake Coeur d’Alene at dusk. The best view is from City Park and City Beach.

Grand Coulee Dam

One of the area’s most awesome July 4 spectacles is at the Grand Coulee Dam. Thursday, Friday and Saturday at 10 p.m., lasers will bounce off the dam. Fireworks explode in the sky on the Fourth after the light show. Best view is from the dam visitor’s arrival center.

Sandpoint

Sandpoint is having a daylong July 4 festival starting at 9:30 a.m. with a kids’ parade. Grand parade follows at 10 a.m. starting at Fifth and Church. The rest of the day’s events are at City Beach. Fireworks will be detonated after dark over Lake Pend Oreille.

Pullman

Fireworks will be launched at 10:10 p.m. to cap the city’s annual July 4 festival. The event starts at 5 p.m. in Sunnyside Park with music and food.

Othello

The Chamber of Commerce presents its annual July 4 fiesta, SunFaire, three solid days of fun. The festival includes parades, fun-runs dances and a port-a-potty race. Thursday’s fireworks begin at 10 p.m. over Lions Park.

Clarkston/Lewiston

Clarkston, Wash., and Lewiston, Idaho, separated only by the Snake River, hold a communal July 4 festival. This year all of the events are in Clarkston, with a barbecue at Vernon Park between 5 and 7 p.m. for $6. Festival-goers will gather at Clarkston High School’s Adams Field for the fireworks after dark over the Snake River.

Colville

The city’s fireworks display will be launched at the Stevens County Fairgrounds at dark (about 10 p.m.).
