Tate Wins At Madison

Unbeaten and almost unchallenged through every heat, Mark Tate cruised to his second straight Madison Regatta victory after a gutsy move to the inside lane by Dave Villwock failed two laps from the finish.

Villwock, whose Pico American Dream still leads the unlimited hydroplane series, was caught in Tate’s wake and stalled his engine. By the time he got it restarted, Tate was far in front and piloted Smokin’ Joe’s to the checkered flag by a margin of more than 10 seconds.
