Magic Don’t Plan Charges
Contrary to widespread reports circulating throughout the country, the Orlando Magic have not made plans to file tampering charges against the Los Angeles Lakers, the Orlando Sentinel reports.
It has been speculated for some time that Magic free-agent center Shaquille O’Neal and his Los Angeles-based agent, Leonard Armato, have privately agreed to a new deal with the Lakers or is close to signing one. Both would constitute NBA rule violations that could subject the Lakers to a $5 million fine as well as other penalties.
“We have no evidence to suggest that any tampering has taken place with the Lakers or any other team,” Magic general manager John Gabriel said. “We have no plans to file any tampering charges. It has not even been a part of our discussions. At this point it has all been speculation. But really all we’re concerned with is signing our players.”
