Liquid Fertilizer Spilled Into Stream

From Staff And Wire Reports

A rollover accident on state Highway 97 Monday afternoon didn’t hurt the passengers, but could hurt fish in Coeur d’Alene.

About 200 gallons of fertilizer spilled out of the Nitro-green Lawn Care truck when it rolled down an embankment above Gand Bay.

The liquid fertilizer entered a stream above the bay, said Bill Schwartz, Kootenai County Disaster Services coordinator.

Waterfront residents were contacted, but no one is believed to pull their drinking water from the bay. County officials were advising people not to use the lake water for watering their lawns.

Marine deputies will be checking the bay for the next few days for dead fish, Schwartz said. , DataTimes
