Royals Bedevil American Legion Opponent

Austin McDonald and Doug Clark had two hits apiece Thursday to lead the Royals (2-2) to a 5-4 win over the Blue Devils in AAA American Legion baseball play at Shadle Park’s Al K. Jackson Field.

Clark added two runs scored, and he and McDonald drove in one run apiece. Josh Gilbert went 2 for 2, with two RBIs, to support Jeremy Affeldt’s 11-strikeout effort for the Blue Devils (2-1).

Liske at Toledo

Idaho athletic director Pete Liske is in Ohio today for his second interview for a similar position at the University of Toledo.

Sources in Moscow close to the situation said that Liske has emerged as the leading candidate.

Toledo officials declined comment, other than confirming that four candidates will be interviewed by UT president Frank Horton.

Liske is joined by finalists Mike Bobinski, Akron A.D.; Vivian Fuller, Northeastern Illinois A.D.; and Mike McNeely, an NCAA administrator and brother of Idaho State football coach Brian McNeely.

Liske was one of four finalists when a lawsuit suspended Toledo’s search two months ago. The search recently reopened and Toledo’s board of trustees on Wednesday voted to allow Horton to conduct the remaining work.
