Stream Experts Offering Help

From Staff And Wire Reports

Stream alteration experts will be in Orofino and Lewiston next week to help residents with projects needed after floods earlier this year, the Idaho Department of Water Resources announced.

In February, the department waived the 60-day advance notice requirement and filing fee for stream channel alteration permits for flood control efforts in the 10 northern counties.

That work does require an afterthe-fact permit, however, and any improper changes must be corrected before the formal permit can be issued.

The water resources department experts will help with permanent solutions to stream damage and process formal permits to replace temporary ones issued because of flooding.

The team will be in the area from June 24-28. An all-day workshop is scheduled from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday at the Department of Fish and Game office in Myrtle, Idaho, which is 12 miles east of Lewiston.

Residents can get information and arrange for an on-site visit by calling (888) 746-8326, which is a toll-free number. , DataTimes
