Magistrates Cited For Excellence

From Staff And Wire Reports

The Idaho Supreme Court has recognized two magistrates for their judicial excellence.

Camas County Magistrate John Varin and Boise County Magistrate Patricia Young on Monday received the Kramer Award during the annual Idaho Judicial Conference.

Varin, who has been a magistrate since 1985, was appointed the juvenile judge for the Magic Valley two years ago and after reorganizing the juvenile justice system for the 5th Judicial District was instrumental in legislative approval of the Juvenile Corrections Act, which revamped the system statewide.

Young, who has been a magistrate since 1981, has been a pioneer in children’s law and domestic violence, serving on both the Governor’s Commission on Child Support and the Supreme Court Child Support Guidelines Committee, which she headed.
