North Idaho Schools, Service Groups Awarded Community Foundation Grants

Charitable organizations in the five northern counties recently received more than $40,000 in grants from the Idaho Community Foundation. The foundation is a charitable group that contributes to the betterment of Idaho communities through the distribution of gifts and bequests.

This year’s North Idaho recipients were chosen from among 86 applications from the region requesting $282,543 in foundation grants. Grant recommendations are made by a regional advisory panel and selected by the foundation’s board of directors composed of community leaders statewide.

Recipients and their projects are:

Coeur d’Alene School District $4,247 for computer equipment for pilot history program.

Moscow’s McDonald Elementary School $3,925 for computer equipment to improve literacy skills.

North Idaho College $3,675 for sound system for the Harding Family Center gymnasium facility serving Head Start and other organizations.

Juliaetta Centennial Park Project $3,554 for regular/handicap accessible playground equipment.

Moscow School District $3,450 to support after-school elementary activities.

East Bonner County Free Library District $2,670 for materials and computer software for an adult literacy program in Sandpoint, and $2,100 for computer and printer at the Clark Fork children’s library.

Sandpoint’s Afternoon Academy $2,500 for scholarships for low-income children attending the after-school program.

Potlatch Cooperative Pre-School $1,600 for teaching supplies and materials.

Coeur d’Alene Youth Help Line $1,200 for volunteer training and relocation of the crisis intervention program to a permanent Coeur d’Alene location.

Coeur d’Alene Anchor House/Idaho Youth Ranch $1,000 to provide material for a specialized education program for at-risk youth.

Child Care Resource and Referral/University of Idaho $1,000 for age-appropriate educational material for day-care facilities.

Priest Lake Emergency Medical Technicians $1,000 for equipment protective clothing.

St. Maries Council for the Arts $1,000 for a copier to increase and promote art programs.

St. Maries Middle School $1,000 to support a Parent Teacher Organization reading program.

Wallace District Mining Museum $1,000 for labeling preparation.

Leadership Educational Adventure Project (LEAP) $826 for first-aid kits for an outdoor training program for at-risk families.

Lake City Health Care $800 for a Fax machine serving low-income and uninsured residents.

Port of Hope Family Treatment Center $700 for educational material for serving at-risk women and children.

Hospice of Benewah County $700 for a portable lift chair for movement of in-home and terminally-ill patients.

Northern Pacific Depot Museum $700 to match another grant for building repairs in Wallace.

Lutheran Social Services of Washington/ Idaho $545 for a foster parent recruitment video.

Bayview-Athol Quick Response Unit $425 additional medical equipment.

Information and Referral/Volunteer Connection $340 for resource/promotional material.
