Utah Valley Women, Men Prevail
It was Utah Valley’s night at the Region 18 basketball tournaments.
The top-seeded Utah Valley women downed Southern Idaho 59-56 on Saturday to capture the tournament championship at the David O. McKay Events Center.
Tricia Ferrin scored 19 points for the Wolverines (26-4), who face a play-in game on Tuesday to advance to the national tournament in Tyler, Texas.
CSI ended with a 27-5 record.
The No. 1 Wolverines men followed with a 93-79 title victory over No. 2 Dixie.
Mark Michaelis scored 21 points and Brad Willden added 20 as Utah Valley (29-4) earned its first trip to nationals, which runs from March 19-23 in Hutchinson, Kan.
Dixie finished 28-5.
