Kenyan Sets 10k World Record
Joseph Kimani of Kenya ran a world-best time of 27 minutes, 20 seconds for a 10-kilometer road course to win the Men’s 10K Run at the 19th annual Revco/Cleveland Marathon and 10K Run.
Hector Dejesus of Mexico won the men’s marathon in 2:12:10 and Alevtina Naoumova of Russia was the women’s marathon champion in 2:32:14. Elana Meyer of South Africa won the women’s 10K in 32 minutes.
Kimani broke the previous 10K world best time over a road course of 27:24 set by William Sigei in the 1994 Crescent City Run in New Orleans.
In Columbus, Ohio, world record-holder Butch Reynolds won the 400 meters in 44.7 seconds in the Jesse Owens Track Classic, the second-fastest time in the world this year.
