Corps Offers Free Workshop On Handling Flood Waters

The Army Corps of Engineers is offering a free workshop on river mechanics for people interested in how flood waters affect land in the flood plain.

The workshop is geared toward landowners in the flood plains, policy makers such as county commissioners, political representatives and professionals who work with river mechanics to a limited extent.

Functions of stream systems, the effect of climate on streams, how sediment and waste is transported in streams, how streambank cover affects stream stability, the pros and cons of mining stream gravel and other topics will be covered in the daylong workshop.

The instructor is Donald Reichmuth, who has been presenting river mechanics training to audiences throughout the Northwest since 1980.

The workshop is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, June 1, in the Grizzly Room of the U.S. Forest Service Supervisor’s office at 3815 Schreiber Way. For more information, call 765-7237.
