Phone Scam In Sandpoint
There may be a telemarketing scam under way in the Panhandle, especially in the Sandpoint area, according to the Idaho State Police Association.
Residents have reported phone calls from a man who says he is affiliated with an organization that benefits “Idaho state disabled police officers.” He asks for money, but refuses to give his name or a phone number.
A second man then gets on the line, identifying himself as the first caller’s lieutenant and again solicits a donation. If challenged, the callers reportedly become abusive, according to association chapter president Jay Komosinski.
Such calls should be reported to local police agencies, he said, and not to the Idaho State Police.
The calls are not part of a telemarketing campaign done by Callen Publishers on behalf of the Idaho State Police Association Magazine, Komosinski said.
