Wayward Wolves To Be Returned
Wolves No. 29 and No. 37 from Yellowstone National Park will be trapped in the Paradise Valley and returned to the park as soon as possible, Yellowstone spokeswoman Stacy Churchwell said Thursday.
The wolves have been located near George Creek on the eastern edge of the valley but bad weather hampered the initial aerial trapping attempt, she said.
The wolves are part of the Nez Perce pack and among those transplanted from Canada over the past two winters.
Ranchers in an area south of Pine Creek spotted wolves less than 100 yards from their residence early Thursday and were forced to hold about 40 horses out of a nearby pasture and keep a closer eye on grazing cattle.
“I have two kids, and I’d rather not have them (wolves) here in the yard,” said Janet Davis, who with her family owns the Flying Diamond Gelbvieh ranch.
