Sweeney Aims For 200
Fresno State football coach Jim Sweeney is on the verge of his 200th win.
“Anybody who coaches as long as I have should win 200 games,” he said modestly.
Sweeney, who will retire at the end of this season, has a career mark of 199-151-4. He takes aim on the landmark victory Saturday night when his Bulldogs (3-4) entertain Boise State (1-7) in a non-conference game. Sweeney once coached at Washington State.
Matt Lytle hit Jake Hoffart on a 40-yard touchdown pass and Pittsburgh (3-5, 2-4 Big East), allowing an average of 52 points over its last six games, didn’t yield a touchdown until 1:10 remained in a 20-13 win over visiting Boston College (4-5, 1-4).
Ohio State junior offensive tackle Orlando Pace, who won the Lombardi Award last year, was among four finalists announced for the honor presented annually to college football’s top lineman by the Rotary Club of Houston. The other finalists are Cornell Brown, senior, defensive end, Virginia Tech; Juan Roque, senior, tackle, Arizona State; and Jared Tomich, senior, defensive end, Nebraska.
