Batt Appoints Endowment Panel
Gov. Phil Batt has appointed a nine-member committee to consider ways to improve investment opportunities for the state endowment fund.
Batt has appointed nine people to the panel charged with creating and maintaining an asset base that will provide “an appropriate rate of return” to the fund that helps support Idaho schools.
“The state of Idaho is fortunate to have the ability, through the endowment fund, to plan for the future,” the governor said in a statement issued Tuesday. “We must protect that investment, and that is why I have asked this committee to come together.”
Batt named Douglas Dorn, a Boise investment executive and former Republican candidate for governor, to be chairman of the committee, which includes people familiar with investment options, the endowment fund and the economics of long-term investments.
The other committee members are state Rep. W.W. “Bill” Deal of Nampa; Robert Maynard, chief investment officer for the Public Employment Retirement System of Idaho; Robert L. Montgomery, chairman of the endowment fund; Thomas Stitzel, an economics professor at Boise State University; state Controller J.D. Williams; state Division of Financial Management director Michael Brassey; Deputy Attorney General Clive Strong; and Michael Ferguson, the Batt administration’s chief economist.
The committee’s first meeting is scheduled for Thursday in Boise.
