Videotaping Of Tanning Patrons Spurs Suit

Associated Press

A woman who believes she may have been secretly videotaped is suing a tanning salon where police say a hidden camera was trained on female customers as they undressed.

Kara Schmidt said she filed her lawsuit to call attention to the fact that secret videotaping of adults is not illegal.

Portland police seized the tapes during a drug raid at the home of Michael Todd West, the owner of the Savage Tan salon in Portland.

A hidden camera aimed through a vent into a tanning booth recorded about 200 patrons. Police are watching the tapes to see if they show children .
