Lumberjacks Notch Santos’ 400th
St. Maries volleyball coach Mitch Santos reached another milestone Tuesday - his 400th career win at the Intermountain League school.
Alicia Adams had nine first-game service points as the visiting Lumberjacks (2-0, 3-2) topped Moscow 15-5, 15-5 in an IML match.
Santos, in his 18th year, has a career mark of 400-39.
Last year’s runner-up finish at the State A-2 tournament was St. Maries’ 15th consecutive title-game appearance. The Lumberjacks have won 11 state titles for Santos.
“It’s a tribute to a lot of great effort by good players and good teams over the years,” Santos said.
Jamie Hammes and Kari Burg combined for 10 kills and 22 digs for St. Maries.
At Rathdrum, Lake City swept host Lakeland 15-11, 15-4, 16-14 in a non-league match. Cassie Beyer had nine digs and 11 assists, and Amber Jamison added eight kills for Lakeland.
Melissa Hei’s 16 service points and Joey Luchini’s five kills led Kellogg (7-0) to a 15-4, 15-6 non-league win over visiting Wallace.
At Post Falls, visiting Kootenai beat Falls Christian 15-4, 15-8 in a North Star League match. FC’s Meghann Jenkins had two aces.
Girls soccer
Ali Chisholm and Katie Brunn scored mid- to late-second-half goals to lead Lake City (2-0-1, 2-1-1) to a 2-0 North Idaho League win at Moscow (1-1, 1-1).
Chisholm and Elly Landwehr provided spark to the Timberwolves’ offense after a 59-minute scoreless match.
At Post Falls, Jennifer Swanstrom scored three goals and added an assist as the Trojans (1-2, 1-2) edged visiting Bonners Ferry 4-3.
Swanstrom put the Badgers (0-3, 0-3) in a 3-1 hole after 17 minutes, then added a goal at 61 minutes.
Teah Beckman and Nikki Richards scored, and stopper Stacey Chambers controlled the pace as Coeur d’Alene (3-1) scored a 2-0 non-league win over visiting East Valley (0-1).
Jessica Tangen scored three goals - all in the first 48 minutes - to lead visiting Sandpoint (1-0-2) to a 9-0 non-league romp over Lakeland at Rathdrum.
Tashena Taylor added two goals and Laura Gillet three assists for the Bulldogs.
