Scouts Honor Sheriff

Kootenai County Sheriff Pierce Clegg, who has been involved with the Boys Scouts of America for more than 12 years, has been honored with a plaque by the Inland Northwest Council of the Boy Scouts of America for his continuing support of the Scouting community.

Clegg received the plaque as a a symbol of the Northwest Scouting Expo, held earlier this year, which drew 3,500 Boy Scouts to Farragut State Park. It expresses thanks for support in time and personnel during the event.

The Kootenai County sheriff’s office also sponsors a law enforcement Explorer post and is currently working together with the Old Mission District of the Inland Northwest Council of Boy Scouts on a project for the Scouts’ Crime Prevention Month in October.

Aubree A. Lill, a 1996 graduate of Ferris High School and the daughter of David Lill of Spokane and Dana Sutherland of Coeur d’Alene, has joined the Army as a radio operator-maintainer and recently departed for basic training at Fort Jackson, S.C.

Lill joined the Army for skill training, travel and adventure, experience and to meet the physical and mental challenges.

Young Marines of North Idaho Lance Cpls. Jeff Hughes and Rob Fiessinger and Pvt. Brandon J. March were all promoted to their present ranks and received new uniforms recently after taking part in a two-day fund-raiser challenge.

The event included two groups, with one biking over 25 miles from the Coeur d’Alene city park and proceeding past the state line while the second group, a log crew consisting of six members, physically transported two 4-foot log sections ten miles. The group later conducted fire watch and attended classes on field hygiene, rifle marksmanship and safety, first aid, and knot tying, and an intense close order (marching).
