Alex Oslund Hauser Lake, Idaho

Visitation for Alex Hilmer Oslund, 66, will be held Thursday from 3-8 p.m. at Yates Funeral Home, Hayden Chapel. Service will be held Friday at 1 p.m. at Troy Lutheran Church in Troy, Idaho. Mr. Oslund, who was born in Troy, died Saturday.

He grew up and graduated from high school in Troy in 1948, later attending the University of Idaho to study electrical engineering for one year.

He went on to attend industrial management classes at the University of Arizona.

Mr. Oslund joined the Army in 1950 and served with the 11th Airborne Division, Pathfinder Platoon at Fort Bragg, N.C., for three years.

He later worked as an electrician for 35 years. He retired in 1992 after 17 years as an electrical inspector for the state of Idaho.

Survivors include his life partner, Betty Markley of Hauser Lake; son, John Oslund of Lynnwood, Wash.; two stepsons, Terry Williams of Seattle and Jim Ware of Moscow; three stepdaughters, Jeri Phair of Seattle, and Sina Peterson and Sandra Powell, both of Lewiston; three sisters, Marie Chaney Hollister of California, Liviah Olin of Coeur d’Alene and Cynthia Cox of Meridian, Idaho; and a grandson, Brandon.

Jane Horstman Corley Troy, Idaho

Memorial service for Jane Lois Horstman Corley, 81, will be held Thursday at 1:30 p.m. at the Troy Lutheran Church. Short’s Funeral Chapel in Moscow, Idaho, is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Corley, who was born in St. Louis, Mo., died Saturday.

She grew up and attended school in St. Louis and went on to attend Missouri State, where she received a bachelor of science degree in 1937.

She received a masters degree in education and taught school in various places for many years, including New York state.

Mrs. Corley retired in 1980 after teaching for 45 years. She moved to Troy several years ago.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph.

Survivors include three children, Philip Corley and Priscilia Corley, both of Troy, and William Corley of France; and two grandchildren, Gaelle and Sadie.

Memorials may be made to the Troy Fire Department.

Eva Garrett Silverton, Idaho

No service for Eva N. Garrett, 64, will be held at her request. Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Born in Yarrow, Mo., Mrs. Garrett died Friday.

She was a homemaker.

She is survived by her husband of 12 years, Troy; two sons, Daniel Elliott and Troy Garrett Jr., both of Vancouver, Wash.; two daughters, Charlene Bates of Tacoma and Patricia Garrett of Barrow, Ark.; a brother, Gene Sunderland of Tacoma; three sisters, Joyce Bowon of Mile City, Mont., Geri Acres of Tacoma and Annette Bower of Sidney, Mont.; 11 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Phillip Earl Newport, Wash.

Service for Phillip A. Earl, 49, will be 2 p.m. Thursday at the Newport Rodeo Grounds. A reception will follow at the Newport Eagles. Sherman Knapp Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Earl, who was born in Spokane, died Saturday.

He graduated from Newport High School and Eastern Washington University graduate, and worked as a claims adjuster for Farmers Insurance Company. He started Grange Insurance, where he had worked for 25 years.

His memberships included, Diamond Lake Grange, Newport Eagles, Pro West Rodeo, PRCA Rodeo Association, United States Team Roping Association, National Grange and the Newport FFA. He was also the president of Newport Kiwanis, Newport Chamber of Commerce, and of the Newport Rodeo Association.

Survivors include his wife, Barbara; daughter, Jamie Bennett of Great Falls, Mont.; son, Jason Earl of Diamond Lake, Wash.; two stepsons, Rendall Farley of Ann Arbor, Mich. and Troy Farley of Spokane; his parents, Glenn and Doris Earl of Diamond Lake; two sisters, Glenda Wise of Needsville, Texas, and Lola Rickey of Diamond Lake; and a brother, Alvin Earl of Diamond Lake.

Memorial contributions may be made to Newport Rodeo Association Building Fund.

Lee Rodgers Creston, British Columbia

Memorial service for Lee William Rodgers, 85, will be held Thursday at 1 p.m. at the Sandpoint Masonic Temple. Inurnment will take place at Pinecrest Memorial Park.

Mr. Rodgers, who was born in Denver, died March 24.

He grew up and attended school in the Cabinet, Idaho, area near Clark Fork, Idaho, and later moved to Canada.

Mr. Rodgers was a member of the AF and AM BCR in Canada, the Central Point Lodge AF and AM in Oregon, the Order of the Eastern Star and the Moose Lodge. He was past master of the Tyee Lodge AF and AM in British Columbia, and a visitor to the AF and AM Lodge in Sandpoint.

Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Ethel; son, Larry Rodgers; three daughters, Sally Greb, Geraldine Veach and Corinna Butts, all of Oregon; two brothers, Allen Rodgers and James Rodgers; a sister, Sarah Montgomery; eight grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the Cancer Society of Creston, B.C.

Johanna Clark Spokane

Vigil service for Johanna G. Clark, 90, will be today at 7 p.m. at Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home. Funeral service will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery.

Mrs. Clark, who was born in Odessa, Wash., died Saturday.

She was a member of St. Augustine Parish.

Survivors include her husband of 66 years, Eldon; three sons, Richard, Michael and Robert Clark, all of Spokane; a daughter, Patricia Jo Lauritzen of Spokane; a brother, Joseph Igelmund of Green Valley, Ariz.; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Charlene Eaton Kent, Wash.

Graveside service for Charlene M. Eaton, 49, will be today at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph Cemetery. Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-South is in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Eaton, who was born in Rapid City, S.D., died Friday.

She was a graduate of Auburn High School and worked as a telephone operator for US West Communications until her retirement in May of 1996. She had a book titled “Think Abouts” published in March.

Mrs. Easton was a member of the Communication Workers of America.

Survivors include a son, Todd Eaton of Dutch Harbor, Alaska; two daughters, Christina Eaton of Spokane and April Eaton of Duvall, Wash.; her father, Howard Van of Wenatchee; four brothers, Kevin Van of Auburn, Wash., Mark Van of Alaska, Brian Van of Federal Way, Wash., and Nick Van of Mount Vernon, Wash.; and five sisters, Rita McKibbin of Spokane, Mary Klein of Duvall, Noelle Rogerson of Kent, Celeste Holt of Seattle and Kevette Smargiassi of Germany.

Lacey Parker Coeur d’Alene

Graveside service for 17-day-old Lacey Marie Parker will be held Thursday at 3 p.m. at Coeur d’Alene Memorial Gardens. English Funeral Home in Coeur d’Alene is in charge of arrangements.

Lacy, who was born March 20, died Saturday.

Survivors include her parents, Scott and Tara Parker.

George Kettenton Veradale

Service for George T. Kettenton, 50, will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Glad Tiding Assembly of God Church. Thornhill Valley Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Kettenton, who was born in Seattle, died Friday.

He worked as a contractor and builder until joining Spokane Transit Authority as a coach operator in 1981. He was a member of the Amalgamated Transit Union 1015 and Glad Tiding Assembly of God Church.

Mr. Kettenton is survived by his wife, Judy; four sons, Trevor, Ryan, Erik and Josh Kettenton, all of Spokane; two daughters, Shannon Moreau of Salem, Ore., and Jillian Kettenton of Spokane; two brothers, Robert Kettenton of Cle Elum, Wash., and Ken Kettenton of Ellensburg; and four grandchildren.

Eugene ‘Bill’ Harris Spokane

Visitation for Eugene “Bill” Harris, 69, will be from 9 a.m.-9 p.m. Thursday at Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home. Service will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Sunset Mausoleum Chapel in Fairmount Memorial Park. Interment will be at Fairmount Memorial Park.

Mr. Harris, who was born in Oklahoma, died Sunday.

He worked as a welder for various companies and later at Carlson’s Sheet Metal until his retirement in 1990. He was a member of Sheet Metal Workers Union 66.

His wife of 38 years, Helen, died in 1992.

Survivors include four daughters, Jacquine Huffman, Bertha Uhler, Sandra Burch and Barbara Harris; two sons, Edward Harris and Billy Harris; a sister, Mary Green; and 15 grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association or Kidney Foundation.

Celia ‘Em’ Dick Nespelem, Wash.

Mass for Celia Ann I-EE Tum ‘Em’ Dick, 89, will be 10 a.m. today at the Nespelem Community Center. Burial will be in Little Nespelem Cemetery. Strate Funeral Home in Grand Coulee, Wash., is in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Dick, who was born in Yakima, died Friday.

She was a member of the Colville Confederated Tribes and the Catholic Church.

Her husband, Matthew, died in 1985.

Survivors include four sons, Terry Dick of McGinnis Lake, Wash., John Dick of Elmer City, Wash., Matthew Dick Jr. of Belvedere, Wash., and William Dick of Little Nespelem Creek, Wash.; three daughters, Lillian Roberts of Spokane, and Marie LaCourse and Dorothy Dick both of Nespelem; 150 grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren and great-great-great-grandchildren.

John Buergel Spokane

Vigil for John W. Buergel, 53, will be 7 p.m. Thursday at St. Thomas More Catholic Church. Mass will be 10 a.m. Friday at the church. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Buergel, who was born in Dayton, Wash., died Saturday.

He served in the Navy during Vietnam and was a Naval Reserve retired commander.

He is a graduate of Gonzaga University and an undergraduate of Washington State University in business administration. He worked for Washington Water Power Co. for 26 years and later became the director of regulatory affairs.

Mr. Buergel was a member of St. Thomas More Parish, Washington State University Alumni Association. He was also on the board of directors for Junior Achievement and the United Way advisory committee.

Survivors include his wife, Marilyn; a son, Joshua Buergel of Seattle; two daughters, Kimberley Buergel of Vallejo, Calif., and Susanna Buergel of New York City; two stepdaughters, Emily Johnson of Seattle and Lynde Johnson of Spokane; his mother, Harriet Buergel of Tekoa, Wash.; a brother, Michael Buergel of Tekoa, Wash.; and three sisters, Nancy Buergel of Ellensburg, Janet Gill of Spokane and Cathy Kirby of Carthage, Ind.

Barbara Close Spokane

Mass for Barbara (Mylan) Close, 63, will be at 11 a.m. today at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Inurnment will be at Normal Hill Cemetery in Lewiston. Hazen and Jaeger Valley Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Close, who was born in Deadwood, S.D., died Saturday.

She was a graduate of Marycliff High School, and owned and operated many business and managed others. She last served as manager of the Othello Chamber of Commerce.

She is survived by three sons, Joe Close, Jr. of Veradale, Steve Close of Suncrest, Wash., and Mike Close of Chattaroy; two brothers, Jerry Mylan of Seattle and Terry Mylan of Leavenworth, Wash.; two sisters, Pat Lordon of San Francisco and Rosemary Phomeir of Atlanta; and five grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or Spokane Blood Bank.

Fred Nolan Spokane

No service for Fred H. Nolan, 53, will be held at the family’s request. Riplinger Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Nolan, a 45-year resident of Spokane, died Sunday.

He worked as a forklift operator.

Mr. Nolan is survived by a son, Fred Nolan II of Spokane; a sister, Sharon Lacount of Spokane; and two brothers, Edward and Merle Nolan, both of Spokane.
