Wedding Guests Bail Out Groom
A groom who kissed his bride in a Nez Perce County Courthouse ceremony was ushered one floor up to the county jail.
Alvin Strickland of Clarkston, Wash., had a warrant for his arrest because he failed to pay a $67 fine, jail Sgt. Norm Pierson said Wednesday.
An officer noticed Strickland in the courthouse and alerted Pierson, who found the warrant was active.
Pierson asked Magistrate William Stellmon, who was to perform the ceremony, when an arrest would most appropriately be made, before or after the “I do’s.” Stellmon opted for after.
The ceremony began and Pierson made an attempt to avoid an arrest altogether.
“I went into Courtroom No. 1 and discreetly asked the best man to step outside,” Pierson said. “I asked if he had $67, but he didn’t have it.”
Strickland kept bride Cheryl Ann waiting for only about 20 minutes while wedding guests rounded up the $67.
