Janet Skaife To Be Coach Of Sasquatch

Despite a retirement, the familiar Skaife name will be at the helm of the Community Colleges of Spokane women’s softball program next season.

Janet Skaife has been named to take over the head coaching duties left vacant by her husband, Jerry Skaife, who retired after 30 years as a coach and educator, the past 21 of those with CCS.

Janet Skaife was a standout center fielder for the Spokane Falls Community College softball team for the 1985 and 1986 teams coached by Jerry.

She inherits a team that has won three championships and has had runner-up honors three times since the NWAACC added softball in 1980.

Janet Skaife, who will also be a physical education instructor at the college, has ten years of teaching experience at the collegiate, high school and junior high school levels. Her last position was at Ferris High School, where she was an English teacher and physical education instructor.

Janet Skaife coached softball at Mead High and Ferris, the latter of which she followed up with five years as head coach of the Saxons’ girls varsity basketball team, compiling a 64-55 record. In 1996, the Ferris team under Skaife finished third in state with a 24-6 record.

At CCS, she will be assisted on the softball diamond by former CCS baseball coach Keith Snyder.

Janet Skaife earned her master’s degree in education from Whitworth College and her bachelor’s degree in English and physical education from Eastern Washington University.
