He’s Out On The Edge, Bending The Slide Rules

Compiled By Staff Writer Rick Bo

Think that Kramer-esque slide that Michael Richards shows off on NBC’s “Seinfeld” sitcom seems smooth?

It should be - he’s been working on it since high school.

“I used to slide into my homeroom class,” says Richards, better known as Cosmo Kramer.

While he doesn’t have to practice the move, he says, it isn’t as easy as it looks.

“Sometimes the entrance doesn’t go quite as planned,” Richards says. “I slide in a little too fast or with too much twist. I’ve never missed, because that would mean hitting the wall, but I’ve come close.”

Despite the popularity of his character, Richards doesn’t see Kramer getting a spinoff show of his own.

“Kramer belongs with the gang,” he said. “He shouldn’t go solo.”

Loose talk

David Hasselhoff, on what he hopes to do career-wise after his “Baywatch” stint ends: “I would like to play a really bad person and kill people.”

Say, wasn’t she on ‘The Pear Tree Family’?

Susan Dey turns 45 today.

Well, it does seem past its expiration date

Ellen DeGeneres received the Bill of Rights Award from the American Civil Liberties Union of Southern California over the weekend for furthering gay rights by coming out on her “Ellen” sitcom. “There’s still a lot more to do,” DeGeneres said. “There’s a warning label on my show sending a message that there is something wrong with me.”

We’re betting he’s one of the bold, right?

David L. Lander, best known as Squiggy on the old “Laverne and Shirley” show, is joining the cast of the soap opera “The Bold and the Beautiful” starting Christmas Eve. As he tells TV Guide: “People can’t quite believe I’m on a soap, least of all this one.”

It sounds like J.J. is still having a blast

Jimmie “J.J.” Walker, who coined the catch phrase “Dyn-o-mite!” on the 1970s sitcom “Good Times,” this week began hosting a three-hour weekday afternoon talk show on an Omaha radio station. Walker also plans to keep touring comedy clubs around the country.

Let’s face it, some people just hate reruns

Fred Berry, who played Rerun on the ‘70s series “What’s Happening!,” was recently assaulted in New York City during an argument with a man who owed him money. Berry, who now works for a catering company, was treated at a hospital for bruises and contusions.

They’re headed for T-H-E, B-I-G, H-O-U-S-E

Former Mouseketeer Darlene Gillespie and her fiance were arraigned this week on federal charges of conspiracy, securities fraud, obstructing justice and perjury for falsely claiming they had the financial ability to buy stocks. In August, the pair was placed on probation for stealing a food processor and clothing from a Macy’s store.
