Scholastic Bowl Winners Recently Announced

The winners of two local I.N.E.E.L. Scholastic Bowl Tournaments have been announced. Teams are divided by size into Class A and Class B. Post Falls High School took first place in the North Region Scholastic Bowl “A” Competition with Coeur d’Alene High School second and St. Maries High School placing third after a playoff for the second-place slot.

Post Falls team members are Anna Zemke, Jack Caughran, Seth Gibbon, Andy Marcy, Katy Hill, Jared Kelsey and Matt Labrum. Their coach is Greg Berg. Zemke, for a third consecutive time, and Caughran were voted to the North Region All-Star Team.

The Region 1 “B” tournament winner was Wallace High School, with Deary High School taking the second-place win.

Wallace team members are; Mike Jennings, Grant Kinsey, Craig Miller, Erika Cantamessa, Lisa Calabretta, Lucia Gregory, Kristina Seals, Heather Branstetter, Amanda Henry and Brenda Ludwick. Their coach is Dick Schrieber. Miller and Gregory were voted to the All-Regional Team.

The top two teams from each of the three regions will advance to the state tournament and then compete against one another on television for a chance to represent Idaho at the national competition in Washington, D.C., in May.

The following North Idaho students recently made the fall President’s List at Gonzaga University in Spokane. Students must earn a minimum grade-point average of 3.7 in order to qualify.

Kelly Meeker, Bonners Ferry; Nancy Dionne, Cataldo; Kelly Dolan, Arne Harang, Ian Mcloughlin, Sheila Stone and Audrey Wallace, all of Coeur d’Alene; Vickie Menter, Hayden Lake; Kelly Grantham, Cheryl Moralez, Gary Murrell and Debra Price, all of Post Falls; Brendan Haddock, Potlatch; Annie Martin, Priest River; Patrice Wheeler, Rathdrum; Virginia Coleman, Sagle; and Kristin Barns and Robert Patchin, both of Sandpoint.
