Holly Turner made two free throws in the final minute as fifth-ranked Mead held off Gonzaga Prep 53-46 in a Greater Spokane League game at Prep Tuesday night.
The Bullpups were within four with 1:20 left but turned the ball over and the Panthers (13-1, 10-0) made enough free throws to avoid the upset.
The Bullpups started with Lisa Bradley guarding Turner in a box-and-one defense but Danielle Zelinski opened the game with two 3’s for the Panthers, who led by 11 at the half. Turner finished with 12 after three consecutive 20-point games.
The Bullpups were led by Theresa Palmer’s 12 points and eight rebounds. Jen Bennett added 12 for Mead.
