School Opening To Be Discussed

From Staff And Wire Reports

The Bonner County School board will have a special meeting today to discuss whether to open the newly built Kootenai Elementary School. The district, which has a budget deficit, has no money to operate $1.5 million school.

School trustee Jerry Owens said there are many unanswered questions that need to be addressed so teachers, parents and the district can make plans. A school advisory team recommended the district open the school. Since then new trustees were elected and are debating if it’s wise financially to open the school.

The meeting is slated to begin after trustees meet for an 8 a.m. executive session. Owens doubted a decision would be made about the school today, saying any final plans should be approved at a regular school board meeting. , DataTimes
