Phillies Gm Says Schilling Will Stay
Curt Schilling, the subject of much recent trade speculation, will finish the season with the Philadelphia Phillies, general manager Lee Thomas said Sunday.
Thomas made his remarks during Sunday’s game against the Los Angeles Dodgers, who beat Schilling 4-1 on Saturday night.
The announcement ended speculation that Schilling would be going to a pennant contender before the July 31 trading deadline.
“Schill has come to the conclusion, along with us - and we wholeheartedly agree with him - that he’s going to stay with the Phillies,” Thomas said. “We are no longer in the process of seeing what we can get for him so that he could waive his no-trade (clause).
“He wants to stay, we want him to stay and we’re very happy about it.”
Schilling signed a three-year, contract extension April 3, two days after beating the Dodgers 3-0 on opening day.
