Backcountry Horsemen

The local chapter of Backcountry Horsemen kicked off its usual ambitious schedule of trail maintenance work two weeks ago.

This year, however, the task seems overwhelming.

“We worked two days with chainsaws, hand saws and loppers at Liberty Lake (County Park) and we only cleared about four miles of trail,” said Barbee Schiebner.

Blowdowns from winter storms are clogging trails throughout the region.

The BCH was out again be working on Mount Spokane last weekend. A major work party is scheduled this week in the Blue Mountains.
