Hints From Heloise

King Features Syndicate

Dear Heloise: I have not seen this hint in your column. I buy potato chips when they are on sale (foil bags are best) and store them in the freezer. When a quick snack is needed, I open a bag, take out what I need, seal the bag and return it to the freezer. (Spring clothespins work well.) Serve immediately. They’re always fresh and so cool in hot summer. Irma

It sounds like a good idea and I’m glad it works for you. An interesting note: A leading manufacturer of chips and snack foods said that they don’t recommend freezing the chips because the temperature variance could change the texture and the flavor. However, many of our readers who live in high-humidity areas have been doing this for years and swear that it works. I can’t tell much of a difference when I store chips like this.

We’d love to hear from others who have tried this and either noticed a difference in taste or not. Fax us your comment, (210) HELOISE (435-6473) or write care of your paper. Heloise
