Some Call It A Little Flap; We Call It A Juicy Scandal
The Billy Bob Thornton marital circus continues.
Just weeks after the writer/director/actor received a Best Original Screenplay Oscar in March, the “Sling Blade” star was served with divorce papers, and a restraining order, by wife Pietra Thornton - the very same, full-figured woman who was at his side during the Oscar broadcast.
Now Thornton has obtained a restraining order of his own.
“I am afraid of her,” Thornton said of his wife of four years: “Not only has she recently threatened to kill me, she is on a malicious crusade to destroy my reputation and career.”
His estranged wife’s reaction: “(He) is fixated with violence,” she said. “He writes about violent, depraved and disturbed people.”
Loose talk
Comedy actor Kevin Nealon on the FTC ruling that bars Joe Camel ads (on “Politically Incorrect”): “But seriously, though, if these ads are so influential toward kids, why aren’t more kids riding camels?”
Maybe she’ll celebrate in a swamp or something
Adrienne Barbeau turns 52 today.
Maybe it’s something in the Hollywood waters
As you can see from the lead item (at left), it’s been a bad week for relationships. Jeff Goldblum acknowledges that he’s no longer engaged to his “Jurassic Park” co-star, Laura Dern (who has been seen in the company of, surprise!, Billy Bob Thornton). And Steven Bochco and Barbara Bosson have announced their split after 29 years.
In Charlie’s case, it’s definitely something he drinks
When he finally got his day in court, Charlie Sheen - so insistent that he was not guilty of battering his former girlfriend - ended up pleading no contest. His sentenced included two years probation, $2,800 in fines, 300 hours community service and he was ordered to attend counseling. And, oh yeah, he can’t go near the victim, Brittany Ashland.
No moss is gathering on this stone of a marriage
In happier news, Mick Jagger and Jerry Hall have patched things up. And the joyful couple, aged 53 and 41 years respectively, are expecting a baby - which will be their fourth.
She was just sniffing the fumes of her body paint
There’s a serious question about Farrah Fawcett’s state of mind following her recent appearance on “Late Night With David Letterman.” Some observers thought the 50-year-old actress was stoned. However, “Late Night” producer Rob Burnett doesn’t agree. “I actually don’t think there was any outside influence,” he said.
That’s how he manages to stay in the line of fire
John Malkovich (“Con-Air”) doesn’t take bad-guy movie roles seriously. “Money,” he told Biography magazine, is why he does them. “I have a production company and projects I would like to do. Also, I mostly lately have done these European art things that nobody sees. You have to do things people see, or you don’t get to do anything.”
