Disaster Aid Deadline Nears

Call today or Wednesday to register for disaster assistance or don’t call at all.

The deadline to register for help from the Federal Emergency Management Agency for snow or flood damage from November’s ice storm, December’s snowfall or flooding is Wednesday.

Several North Idaho counties were declared disaster areas after the winter weather collapsed roofs and overwhelmed snow removal crews. Some counties, such as Clearwater and Latah, also suffered flood damage during the New Year’s Day thaw.

Benewah, Bonner, Boundary, Clearwater, Kootenai, Latah and Shoshone counties all are eligible for disaster assistance.

Damaged trees are not covered by the disaster assistance. The programs available include disaster housing and low interest loans. Small businesses have until Oct. 6 to apply for Economic Injury Disaster Loans.
