Mailman Delivers Milestone For Jazz

Karl Malone, the NBA’s consummate power forward, reached 25,000 career points Sunday, in Minneapolis, with one powerful stroke.

With a one-handed slam dunk on a fast break in the third quarter of the Utah Jazz’s 115-106 victory over the Minnesota Timberwolves, Malone became just the fifth player in NBA history to amass 25,000 points and 10,000 rebounds.

Malone scored 36 points and added 11 rebounds and eight assists in the game.

The 12-year veteran joins Wilt Chamberlain, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Moses Malone and Elvin Hayes in a select group of players to record both 25,000 points and 10,000 rebounds.

“It means I shot a lot,” Malone said of the milestone. “I’ve been blessed to stay healthy and be on a team with a group of guys that believe in me. I’m not flashy.”

Knicks edge Bulls

Patrick Ewing scored 32 points and made New York’s only two baskets over the final six minutes as the Knicks passed perhaps their biggest test of the season by holding off Chicago 97-93 at Madison Square Garden. Michael Jordan scored 36 points for the Bulls.

Hun, 27, who would be the tallest player in league history, was “discovered” last August in Taiwan while playing in the William Jones Cup, a major Asian sporting event.
