Children Found Alone In Filthy Home Post Falls Mother Charged With Two Counts Of Child Abuse

A Post Falls woman was charged with two counts of child abuse Tuesday after police found her children alone in an apartment littered with filth.

Laura Wilson, 29, is being held at the Kootenai County Jail on $3,000 bail for two counts of misdemeanor injury to a child.

On Monday, Post Falls police found two of her four children in an apartment littered with dirty diapers, dog feces, urine, broken glass and food, said Detective Dick Halligan.

Police received an anonymous call at about 7 p.m. Monday. A man driving along Seltice Way had found Wilson’s 6-year-old son walking along the busy road.

It appears the boy had been walking home from kindergarten about two miles away, Halligan said.

When the man took the boy home he found a 9-year-old child who had been left home alone not feeling well for about seven hours, Halligan said.

The man then called police.

“The house condition was very disturbing,” Halligan said. “It was a total mess.”

When police arrived they found dog feces in the living area and bedrooms. Open dirty diapers lay on the floor and had been chewed on by the dog. Garbage, clothing, broken glass and food also littered the house. Both bathrooms in the apartment appeared to be clogged, Halligan said.

Police found Wilson’s two other children, ages 3 and 5, at a friend’s house. They located the mother at about 9 p.m.

Wilson told police she had spent the day helping her boyfriend move, Halligan said.

All four children were placed in protective custody.
