Sweden Breaks Out, Defeats United States In World Hockey

Sweden scored two goals in the final 4 minutes Saturday for a 3-1 victory over the United States, reducing the Americans’ chances of winning a medal at the World Hockey Championships.

Saturday’s results mean that Canada, the United States, Russia, the Czech Republic, Sweden and Finland will play in the round-robin medal tournament starting Monday at Helsinki.

The United States will start the round-robin series with no points, compared with Sweden’s four, the Czech Republic’s two and Canada’s two.
