Post Falls Education Foundation Funds Record Number Of Projects

Teachers with creative ideas were given a record number of awards this spring by the Post Falls Education Foundation.

The group awarded $10,271 to teacher-created projects that don’t duplicate school district spending, according to foundation president Kathy Lewis.

She credited the recent success of the foundation’s fund-raiser, “Wine, Stein and Dine,” for making this the largest award of grants, both in numbers and dollars.

Projects funded, dollar amounts and teachers were:

Ponderosa Elementary: C.U.B.S., Norie Wyatt and Kathy Cooper, $130; The Cozy Corner, Norie Wyatt, $200; Native Environment, Debbie Norbeck, $445; Project Starr II (Students Are Reading), Dana Stiegemeier and Gail Teeter, $538; Be Cool II, Dave Kuntz, $602.

Post Falls Junior High: Computer Upgrade, Jon Coffin, $500; Learning More with Videodiscs, Margaret Mccoy, $450; Photo Talk, Kathy Hearn and Kay Lacy.

Seltice Elementary: Language Board!, Jennifer Lamb, $60; Kids Come in Special Flavors, Jennifer Lamb, $188; What is That Funny “G”?, Jennifer Lamb, $115; Scan-A-Mania, Kevin Hauck, $500; Discover Electricity, Kevin Hauck, $271; Seltice Sound Systems, Sue Stillinger, $493.

Kindercenter: Enhancing Kindergarten Science and Social Studies, Kevin Krieger, $395; Home-School Networking, Barb Mclain, $75; Head Start for Kindergarten, Marietta Glass, $334.

Post Falls High School: Noxious Weeds, Greg Cossette, $985; Use Scanner in Communicating, Dan Nipp, $500; Photography, Dan Nipp, $150; Literature of the Northwest, Pat Schmidt and Russ Wright, $1,411.

Prairie View Elementary: Our Friend the Bee, Mary Coffin, $74; RAH Books, Diane Yates, $500; RAH Books, Shelley Kracht, $500; Time Machine, Kathy Baker, $30; Connecting Point, Donna Shove, $500.

Three additional grants were funded by other sponsors. They were:

Anne Frank: Through the Eyes of a Friend, Page Harmon, Junior High, $400, funded by the Kootenai County Task Force on Human Rights; Vermicomposting: Worms Plus Waste Equals Wonderful, Kathy Baker, Prairie View, $382, by Washington Water Power Co; and Post Falls Aims for Excellence, Carol Treat-Starburst, $312, funded by Idaho Forest Industries.
